As war progresses through many decades, generations of children are affected very negatively by war. This causes many children to die or be severely injured. The generations of children who are affected by war are often called the “lost generations. In Iraq, over 500,000 children are out of school, and many more are in poverty. When these children are living in war affected countries, the children are not able to even get a basic education. Education for children is needed to progress a country, since the children are the future. Besides the fact that the children are illiterate, many more are mentally or physically scarred from the war. In Iraq, the death rate over children under 5 is more than twice more of what it was 10 years ago. The large increase of deaths are due to the war conflict that has been occurring in Iraq for the last 11 years. In many studies, it showed that war affected children’s trauma decreases after the violence is removed from the situation. If the war and violence was removed from these countries, it would solve the issues that they are facing. Children are killed everyday, and as child mortality rates are increasing, more and more children are dying earlier and earlier. Since children are dying, there is not a generation to change the future to improve the country. This decreases the population count, and this, along with the lack of education and stability regresses the country instead of progressing.
